Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) at the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme) is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Cell plays a pivotal role in promoting entrepreneurship through comprehensive capacity building, mentoring, handholding support, and enterprise facilitation services for both aspiring and existing entrepreneurs.
Objectives
To promote entrepreneurship as a viable and sustainable career option among youth, women, and marginalized communities.
To strengthen MSMEs through skill development, innovation, and enterprise support services.
To facilitate adoption of technology-driven and environmentally sustainable business practices.
Core Functions and Activities
1. Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs)
EDC designs and delivers structured training programmes focusing on business planning, financial literacy, market linkages, regulatory compliance, and the use of digital tools for enterprise growth.
2. Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs)
These programmes aim to sensitize students and potential entrepreneurs about emerging business opportunities, Government schemes, and the evolving startup ecosystem.
3. Skill Development & Capacity Building
The Cell conducts sector-specific skill development initiatives to enhance employability and build entrepreneurial competencies aligned with market demand.
4. Incubation & Handholding Support
EDC provides end-to-end support including idea validation, preparation of project reports, assistance in business registration, facilitation of access to finance, and continuous mentoring through incubation initiatives.
5. Facilitation of Government Schemes
The Cell actively supports entrepreneurs in accessing various flagship schemes such as Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (MUDRA), Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) etc.
6. Innovation & Startup Promotion
EDC promotes innovation-driven enterprises by supporting startups through mentoring, networking, and linkages with industry, academia, and research institutions.
