Business Transformation: From Traditional to Digital
Digital adoption has become central to how businesses reach customers, build trust, and grow revenue. Yet a large share of India's MSMEs, SHGs, FPOs, and Startups — despite strong products and services — lack access to structured digital branding and marketing know-how. CDBM was established at the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme), to bridge this gap and enable inclusive digital growth across sectors and geographies.
Centre for Digital Branding and Marketing (CDBM)
The Centre for Digital Branding and Marketing (CDBM), School of Enterprise Development, ni-msme envisions a future where businesses can effectively utilize digital platforms to enhance their brand visibility, reach wider markets, and achieve sustainable growth. By providing training, consultancy, and resources, the Centre will enable these entities to develop and implement robust digital branding and marketing strategies. This will not only contribute to their individual success but also have a positive impact on the overall economy. The Centre's initiatives will empower these entities to tap into the vast potential of the digital world and economic development.
India’s digital economy presents unprecedented opportunities for MSMEs, SHGs, FPOs, and entrepreneurs to build stronger brands, reach wider markets, and increase customer engagement through digital branding and marketing. Digital tools such as websites, social media, e-commerce platforms, WhatsApp catalogues, online marketplaces, and digital advertising enable small enterprises to communicate their value, showcase local products, and sell beyond geographical boundaries. Digitally enabled Indian SMBs are significantly more likely to sell outside their city than offline businesses—51% compared with 29%—demonstrating the role of digital presence in expanding market access. Digital adoption is also producing measurable business benefits, with 73% of surveyed MSMEs reporting improved income or operational efficiency and 69% of digitally active MSMEs reporting growth in their customer base.

Leveraging Digital Tools for Market Acquisition - A Way Forward for Branding and Marketing of FPOs, OFPOs & SHGs across Telangana
Through its Centre for Digital Branding and Marketing (CDBM), ni-msme strengthened the digital capabilities of 59 FPOs, OFPOs, and SHGs across Telangana through structured training, expert sessions, and 12 months of handholding support. The initiative helped beneficiary organizations enhance their digital presence, adopt AI-enabled marketing tools, expand market access, and achieve measurable improvements in branding, customer engagement, and revenue growth. This initiative was supported by NABARD.
