National Resource Centre for Cluster Development (NRCD)
The National Resource Centre for Cluster Development (NRCD), established in 2004 at ni-msme with support from the Development Commissioner (MSME), was created to strengthen the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through a cluster-based development approach. This approach addresses key challenges faced by MSMEs such as isolation, lack of technology, weak market linkages, and limited access to skills and information.
The primary objective of NRCD is to promote and implement cluster development across India by providing end-to-end support to MSME clusters. Its core functions include cluster identification, diagnostic studies, preparation of detailed project reports, strategic intervention design, capacity building, and continuous monitoring and handholding. It also facilitates technology upgradation, infrastructure development, and deployment of business development services to improve productivity and competitiveness.
NRCD plays a crucial role in implementing government initiatives like the SFURTI scheme, supporting multiple clusters across states. Through these interventions, it enhances artisan incomes, promotes innovation, strengthens market access, and ensures sustainable enterprise development. Overall, NRCD acts as a national-level catalyst for transforming MSMEs into competitive, collaborative, and growth-oriented ecosystems.
